Muhanga Cooperatives in tax education

Cooperatives in Muhanga district gathered 11 December 2015 for Tax education aimed at helping them strengthening their financial cause and abide by tax obligation. Muhanga is the 29 th district where similar training is conducted by RRA in partnership with the National Cooperatives Confederations of Rwanda (NCCR). Ntaganda Abdul, Rwanda Cooperatives Agency coordinator in Southern Province called members to abide by tax laws as they work for the interests in their collaborative actions. He indicates that the tax education has considerably helped in improving cooperatives responsibilities regarding taxes and encourage the cooperatives members to work for more profits. According to Ntaganda, some cooperatives used to consider themselves as associations for mutual support without taking into account the aspect of taxes while they are profit oriented. “Cooperatives are investors like any other investor,” Ntaganda stressed, believing that with the tax education sessions conducted in all districts, some changes are witnessed in regard with taxes compliance. Musengimana Reverien, chairperson of a cooperative for cassava processing commended the tax education saying they are going to start complying with taxes as we know their benefits to the citizens. Nikuze Marie Anne a representative of a cooperatives for disabled people said they used to fear RRA as they thought it imposes high tax. “Now as we have been told of categories of taxpayers we are going to comply with taxes,” Nikuze pointed out, recalling that tax contribute to citizens’ welfare including buildings taking into consideration people with disabilities.
