Tax authorities of Rwanda and Liberia ink deal on cooperation

By Charlotte IRIGOGA Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide in various areas of cooperation notably; exchange of information, tax law reform and capacity building. The MOU, was signed by RRA Commissioner General, Mr. Tusabe Richard and his Liberian counterpart, Ms. Elfrieda Stewart Tamba. The two officials inked the deal at the beginning of the just concluded benchmarking mission by senior tax officials of Liberia to Rwanda. In line with the MOU signed last Thursday, both RRA and LRA will ensure there is an effective process to support realisation of activities that facilitate growth of capabilities within the two sister institutions such as; benchmarking study visits; provision of training in line with identified needs; short term attachments of officials to specified areas; provision of advisory services and remote advisory and technical meetings. Speaking at the event, Mr. Tusabe said the MoU is important as it renders good support in the fight agaist tax fraud in international trade while facilitating movement of capital within Africa. Ms.Tamba said the MoU and RRA’s acceptance to host LRA team on a benchmarking study mission is a perfect example of how South to South Cooperation spirit is being put to work. RRA Manager for International Taxation Affairs, Ms. Hajara Batamuliza says: “Some businesses come to Africa for transit or destination purposes. With this MoU, it means Rwanda and Liberia have a mechanism that allows for sharing of information to scrutinise all that.” Ends
